Press release: Norske tog receives FLIRT # 100

Fast Light Innovative Train is called FLIRT. The FLIRT trains are successfully transporting passengers in the Eastern part of Norway and can in many ways be defined as modern train travel.

Del:

The FLIRT procurement has been a success story from the start in NSB and have continued successfully after the contract was handed over to Norske tog.

The trains have been delivered as planned, as a result of a good collaboration and a professional supplier throughout the project.

The contract was signed in 2008, and the first train was put into service in early 2012. Two thirds of the total FLIRT-delivery have now been delivered. FLIRT is the spine of the Norwegian railway and constitutes almost 50 % of the train sets. It is a useful train which has delivered on all parameters outlined in the tender. The train is open and bright, has comfortable seats and a good indoor climate. In addition, the FLIRT trains are easy to embark and disembark and has a high total capacity.

The FLIRT trains are delivered in different classes in Norway, called Class 74, 75, 75-2, and soon also Class 76. Even though the different classes have different capabilities and are designed to operate different lines (commuter lines, regional lines and both electrical and non-electrical lines), the main solutions and systems are the same across classes. Standardized systems and solutions are an advantage when it comes to standardized maintenance and common spare parts, and also in training of onboard staff.

You can read more about the different classes on the following links:

At Norske tog we are looking forward to further deliveries, and the work with the last option to be released in the contract with Stadler. As the Government now wants the fifth option to be released means that we will have a total of 150 FLIRT in Norway. An overview of the FLIRT deliveries is described in the tables below.
